Announcing New Editions of Four Renowned Area Control Games

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we are bringing beautiful new editions of Mexica, Bridges of Shangri-La, Gheos, and Reel Rivals to Kickstarter this year. Breathing new life into these renowned, long lost board game gems has been an absolute pleasure, and we are so excited to share with you what we’ve been working on.

All four games will be available as part of the same Kickstarter campaign.

Mexica

Players: 2-4 | Play Time: 90 mins | Age: 10+

Build the legendary city of Tenochtitlan, complete with districts, canals, bridges, and temples. From legendary design duo Michael Kiesling (Azul) and Wolfgang Kramer (El Grande).

What's New?

Our focus has been on ensuring this is the best looking version of Mexica ever. In addition to the visual overhaul, we have added a second map which offers players a shorter, tighter game.

Bridges of Shangri-La

Players: 2-4 | Play Time: 60 mins | Age: 10+

Compete for dominance in seven disciplines across the mountain-villages of Shangri-La in this ingenious area control game from Leo Colovini.

What's New?

We’ve introduced a two player mode. In addition, alongside revamping the graphic design, we have commissioned warm, inviting artwork from Nicolas Gendron (Arborea) to help fans of the game get it to the table! On the production, we’ve swapped the 168 punchboard student tokens in the original edition with screen printed wooden pieces. This is a nice quality of life upgrade, as those students need to be picked up, put down, and moved around the board routinely, and it’s a lot easier and nicer to do that with wooden pieces!

Gheos

Players: 2-4 | Play Time: 60 mins | Age: 10+

Watch over an archipelago, gain followers from the strongest tribes, and reshape the land to hasten their rise and hinder their rivals.

What's New?

We’ve added wooden temples! Previously, temples were illustrated directly on the tiles. This meant that players needed to remember that you cannot overlay those tiles. Now, tiles have a foundation illustration which prompts you to place a 3D temple piece. It’s much easier to remember you can’t overlay a tile if it has a big wooden piece on it! In addition, the temples function as really nice visual centrepieces for the production, and contrast nicely with expanding, two dimensional archipelago players collectively create.

Reel Rival

Players: 2-4 | Play Time: 45 mins | Age: 10+

Build a marshy landscape and take the best fishing spots in this tight, tense, tile-laying game from Wolfgang Kramer.

What's New?

Well, alot! This game is based on El Cabellero, a tile-laying follow up to the timeless classic El Grande. While the DNA of that game is still present, and with it the sharp tactical decision making that made us fall in love with it, a lot has been added around this to bring the game into the 21st century.

We’ve also elevated the production, again replacing punchboard with wood, brightening up the artwork, and dramatically reducing the box size by pre-punching tiles. On artwork and theming, we’ve chosen a more inviting setting, but one that feels appropriately wonky and abstract for a game that is more about crunchy decisions than thematic immersion!
